Crude Ontario licence plate forgery was ‘ours to discover’: York Regional Police

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but we’re pretty sure this guy doesn’t have much Monet in the Banksy from his artwork.

York Regional Police say officers conducting a R.I.D.E. stop near a Vaughan club early Friday morning uncovered a crudely drawn fake Ontario licence plate.

The vehicle was stopped at around 12:40 a.m. in the Bowes and Rivermeded roads area.

“The front plate was covered and when officers removed the cover it was a hand drawn licence plate,” police told CityNews Friday.

Police allege the 49-year-old Scarborough man who crafted the minimalist masterpiece was breaking his curfew at the time, a condition on his release from a previous undisclosed run-in with the law.

“The good news? He wasn’t impaired,” police tweeted.

“The better news? This artistic masterpiece was ours to discover. It was on the front of his car, painstakingly crafted to match the stolen plate on the rear.”

The driver has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a court order, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.

He’s also facing Highway Traffic Act charges of using a plate not authorized for the vehicle, and driving a motor vehicle with no licence.
