Citytv has announced the debut of two new online-streaming services on Amazon Prime Video, including a free, around-the-clock digital news channel that is also available on the CityNews website.

The two new services are CityNews 24/7 and Citytv+. For $4.99 a month, Citytv+ will offer on-demand TV series such as The Bachelor, Canada’s Got Talent, and Hudson and Rex. Prime members can also access a free tier of Citytv’s live programming schedule.

Daily newscasts will also include those from OMNI Television in Arabic, Cantonese, Filipino, Italian, Mandarin and Punjabi, and select series from cable channels FX and FXX such as Sons of Anarchy and The Americans.

“It’s been exciting to work with our partners at Prime Video to launch Citytv+ and showcase the incredible work by our teams through shows like Canada’s Got Talent while also giving Canadians another way to binge our hit content like The Bachelorette, Chicago Med, Fire, and P.D., Law and Order, and Mayans M.C.,” said Julie Adam, the president of news and entertainment at Rogers Sports and Media, in a statement.

“When it comes to news, the world has never needed trusted journalism more than it does today, and CityNews 24/7 ensures more audiences can access the powerful storytelling from our world-class journalists.”

The partnership with Amazon Prime Video comes as more viewers shift away from cable television

Both options expand on the traditional broadcast formats of Citytv, operated by the media wing of Rogers Communications, at a time when viewers continue to migrate away from cable.

Janice Smith, the vice-president of national media sales at Rogers Sports and Media, said Citytv+ “offers advertisers new and incremental reach to engage streaming audiences in both on-demand and live TV content.”

“With dynamic ad insertion technology and first-party data, we continue to build on our position as leaders in Connected TV and streaming in Canada and work even more closely with marketers on total TV opportunities across all platforms,” said Smith

Rogers is the parent company of CityNews.
