Toronto councillors vote to give themselves a 24% raise

    UP NEXT:

The 12-year councillor in downtown Toronto has decided to take her fight for housing and mental health to Queens Park. Mark McAllister shows the impact she's had locally and why she's trying to make the move.

City of Toronto elections staff announced it will be holding information sessions for potential candidates before the nomination period opens on May 2.

Anyone interested in running for the position of mayor, councillor or school board trustee will be able to attend a virtual information session between 12 and 1 p.m. or 7 and 8 p.m. on April 21.

In addition to outlining the process for this year’s election, a statement said staff will be able to answer questions from anyone in attendance.

Candidates have until 2 p.m. on Aug. 19 to file their paperwork to appear on the ballot, withdraw their nomination or change the office they are seeking.

Meanwhile, for those looking to file their nomination papers this year, City of Toronto staff said appointment times will be able to be booked online in an effort to reduce wait times and avoid crowding at the elections office.

Election day in Toronto and all other Ontario municipalities is scheduled for Oct. 24. Local advance voting will be held between Oct. 7 and 14.
