The Russian foreign ministry’s new sanctions apply to federal government officials, several premiers as well as military experts and journalists from Canada who are “directly involved in the development, substantiation and implementation of the Russophobic course of the ruling regime in Canada.”

Ford is joined on the list by fellow premiers from Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia, while Ottawa mayor Jim Watson was also included in the latest “stop list.”

Russia has also sanctioned Central Bank Governor Tiff Macklem, Canada’s UN representative Bob Rae, and Justin Trudeau’s chief of staff Katie Telford.

On Tuesday, Canada hit 14 more Russians with sanctions for their close ties with President Vladimir Putin, including his two daughters.

Since February, the federal government has placed sanctions on more than 750 individuals and entities, mainly from Russia and Belarus.
