Police: Speed, alcohol, lack of seatbelts all possible factors in fatal Vaughan crash

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the cause of a crash in Vaughan that claimed the life of a 27-year-old Mississauga woman on Sunday night.

Police say the single-vehicle collision occurred around 11:30 p.m. on the southbound Highway 427 ramp to the eastbound Highway 407.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the vehicle lost control rounding the corner of the ramp and mounted a concrete barrier on the left side before rolling over to the other side.

The woman, a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was a 22-year-old man from Caledon, he was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and will undergo surgery.

The ramp was closed for the investigation but it reopened at 5 a.m. on Monday.

There is no word yet on the cause of the collision. Schmidt says police are looking into speed, alcohol, and lack of seatbelts, as contributing factors to the crash.
