Toronto police say a child under five was seriously injured after falling from an apartment building in Scarborough.
Investigators were first called around 3 p.m. to the high rise in the Brimley and Ellesmere Road area.
A child was rushed to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The youth is expected to survive.
Police are unsure what led to the fall.
Const. David Hopkinson tells CityNews it’s unclear whether the child fell from a balcony or window, citing conflicting and varied reports.
“This could be just an unfortunate set of circumstances,” Hopkinson said.
“If it is, we wouldn’t comment any further. We would consider this a private family matter. We would only comment further if we believe there is something sinister or something criminal, and charges may be warranted.”
Hopkinson says the incident is not considered suspicious.
The child’s gender was not provided. It’s unclear if the parents and/or guardians were at home during the incident.
