Community holds vigil for slain Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala in Brampton

A memorial for acclaimed Punjabi singer and actor Sidhu Moose Wala was held in Brampton.

A memorial for acclaimed Punjabi singer and actor Sidhu Moose Wala took place in Brampton Saturday evening.

Moose Wala was fatally shot a week ago when he was driving a vehicle in Mansa, a district in northern India’s Punjab state, with two other people in the car.

The 28-year-old was declared dead in hospital.

He began his music career in Brampton, before returning to his home of Punjab and becoming a superstar. Moose Wala was popular in the United Kingdom and Canada, where his songs were also on Billboard charts.

Moose Wala became involved in politics and lost a congressional election in March.

Hundreds of his fans gathered at Chinguacousy Park to play the rapper’s music and pray.

A Punjab state top police official has said the initial investigation revealed the killing to be an inter-gang rivalry.
