Lockdown lifted at Scarborough high school, police investigating threats of violence

A lockdown at a Scarborough high school has been lifted as police continue to investigate what the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) referred to as “threats of violence.”
Sir Wilfrid Laurier C.I., located in the area of Guildwood Parkway and Galloway Road, was locked down on Monday morning for the investigation. The lockdown was lifted shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Toronto police tell CityNews the initial threat was made on the evening of June 3. Out of an abundance of caution, a police presence remains at the school.
The TDSB said nearby Jack Miner Senior Public School was put in a Hold and Secure due to a separate threat.
TDSB spokesperson Ryan Bird tells CityNews a threat was directed towards Sir Wilfrid Laurier C.I. and Jack Miner. The specifics are not yet known but Bird said the threats were violent in nature.
A number of other nearby TDSB schools, including Guildwood Junior Public School, Maplewood High School, Eastview Public School, Poplar Road Junior Public School, and Elizabeth Simcoe Junior Public School, were put in a Hold and Secure as a precaution.
All hold and secures have since been lifted and the TDSB says all students are safe.
Police say at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday, police received a report at a separate school of graffiti that contained a threat. The investigation is ongoing.
Officers said it is too early to say if this is linked in any way to the first threat at the school.
