Truck driver charged after fatal crash on Hwy. 400 last June

Provincial police have charged a transport truck driver in connection with a fatal crash on Highway 400 in Toronto last June.

The multi-vehicle crash happened in the southbound lanes of the highway near Finch Avenue on June 24.

Six vehicles and a transport truck were involved in the collision and one of the vehicles went up in flames. A 30-year-old man from Richmond Hill was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said vehicles were slowing down in the middle lanes due to traffic, when witnesses saw the truck plow into the back of a vehicle, causing a chain-reaction crash.

Ontario Provincial Police have charged 36-year-old Sahil Ghai, of Brampton, with criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

Ghai has been released on bail and will appear in court at a later date.
