Mississauga high school teacher charged with sexual exploitation: Peel police

Peel police say a high school teacher in Mississauga has been arrested and charged in connection to a sexual exploitation investigation.

Police say between September and November of 2019, the 40-year-old man allegedly invited a young person to have sexual relations with him on a number of occasions, and the young person refused.

On Monday, June 20, officers arrested and charged Daniel Hayes from Guelph with sexual exploitation. They say he was held for a bail hearing.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Hayes works for the Peel District School Board, and when CityNews asked for comment from the the board, it provided a statement reading, “School staffing and personnel matters fall within the confidential purview of our human resources department. As such, Peel District School Board cannot comment publicly on confidential human resource matters.”

It adds, “The safety and wellbeing of students is always our top priority. As this Peel Regional Police investigation continues to unfold our focus is on ensuring students and staff have access to counselling and mental health supports as needed.”
