A public school in Durham Region was locked down for the second time this month after a bear was spotted near the premises.
Police said a Hold and Secure was in place at Beaverton Public School around 2 p.m. on Wednesday after a bear was spotted near Lakeland Crescent and Mara Road in Beaverton, Ont.
The Ministry of Natural Resources was notified, and police urged the public not to approach the bear.
The lockdown was lifted a short time later after police determined there was no threat to staff or students.

“Thank you for everyone’s patience and understanding. We are happy to hear that the bear made it to a nearby green space,” a spokesperson for Durham Regional Police said.
“He was found swimming in someone’s pond, possibly cooling off from the heat.”
Beaverton Public School was placed in a lockdown on June 14 after another bear was spotted in the area.
