Toronto Raptors re-sign Chris Boucher, Thad Young to new deals: Report

By Lucas Casaletto

The Toronto Raptors have re-signed Canadian forward Chris Boucher to a three-year, $35.25-million contract, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Raptors have also re-signed veteran forward Thaddeus Young to a two-year, $16-million contract, according to Yahoo’s Chris Haynes.

Boucher’s contract is fully guaranteed.

Boucher, 29, has played the last four seasons with the Raptors, emerging as one of their better bigs off the bench. The Canadian appeared in 80 games last season, averaging 9.4 points per game (PPG) and 6.2 rebounds per game (RPG).

His efficiency from beyond the arc fell off, however, hitting only .297 per cent of his threes after averaging .383 per cent the year prior.

Boucher won an NBA title with the Raptors in 2019. He was also part of the 2018 championship team with the Golden State Warriors.

Young, 34, was acquired by the Raptors at the NBA Trade Deadline from the San Antonio Spurs for Goran Dragic and a 2022 first-round NBA Draft pick.

Toronto also received Detroit’s 2022 second-round draft pick, selecting Christian Koloko.

Both moves came just after free agency opened on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET.

The 15-year veteran played well for Toronto down the stretch, appearing in 26 games, averaging 6.4 PPG, with 4.4 RPG and 1.7 APG.

The Raptors had exclusive Bird rights on Boucher and Young, allowing the team to pay players up to 120 per cent of a previous salary in order to resign them.

Toronto still has a full mid-level exception ($10.5 million) to make other moves.
