Ex-boyfriend charged in alleged abduction of Elnaz Hajtamiri in Wasaga Beach

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a man with the alleged abduction of a 37-year-old woman from a home in Wasaga Beach in January.

Police say Elnaz Hajtamiri — who also goes by the surname Tamiri — was taken from a residence by three suspects dressed in police gear on the evening of Jan. 12, 2022. She has still not been found.

The suspects fled with Hajtamiri in what is believed to be a white 2016-2022 model Lexus RX sport utility vehicle. OPP investigators have linked the abduction with an assault on Hajtamiri that occurred in an underground parking lot in Richmond Hill in December of 2021.

Police have charged Mohamad Lilo, 35, from Brossard, Que., with kidnapping related to the 2022 incident in Wasaga. He is also charged with attempted murder and attempted kidnapping in connection with the alleged separate attack in Richmond Hill.

OPP investigators say Hajtamiri and Lilo were previously in a relationship and were business partners at a time. They didn’t confirm if investigators are still looking for more suspects.

Lilo is scheduled to appear at a courthouse in Barrie on Wednesday.

In April, Hajtamiri’s mother, Fariba Hajtamiri, who lives in Iran, offered a plea for help and information about her daughter’s whereabouts.

“We have no news about her. We don’t know if she is alive or not,” her mother said.

“We desperately need your help. Please guide us and share your information with us. If you have any information, please share it with the police. I beg of you as a mother to guide us and tell us everything you know.”

The next day, York Regional police charged two people in connection with the alleged assault and attempted abduction of Elnaz Hajtamiri in Richmond Hill.

Hajtamiri is described as 5-foot-3, with a slim build and shoulder-length black hair, which police said had been cut to a shorter length before she was abducted. Anyone with any information is asked to call the dedicated tip line at 1-833-728-3415, or a local police service.
