Ontario police recover stolen SUVs from inside shipping container

By Lucas Casaletto

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Mississauga charged a truck driver after a traffic stop discovered two stolen SUVs inside a shipping container.

Mississauga OPP was advised of stolen vehicles being transported inside what officers referred to as intermodal containers.

Around 8 p.m. on Monday, responding officers stopped and searched a truck on Highway 427 near Rexdale in Etobicoke.

Two stolen vehicles — a Jeep Cherokee and a Range Rover — were found inside the shipping containers. The unidentified truck driver was charged with two counts of stolen property.

The discovery comes after multiple carjacking incidents in Toronto and across the GTA that have seen many Range Rovers targeted in armed crimes.

Last month, three men were arrested and charged after violent carjackings in Oakville, where the alleged perpetrators targeted Range Rovers.

In May, Toronto Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner was carjacked at gunpoint and had his Range Rover stolen from a Cineplex parking lot in Etobicoke.

Carjacking task forces have been assembled to leverage a more significant police presence to catch carjacking perpetrators in the act.
