Toronto police are investigating and warning pet owners after a person was seen spreading suspected chemicals on the grass in the Summerland Terrance and Dundas Street West area of Etobicoke on Tuesday night.

Police say there are reports that several dogs have fallen ill, warning pet owners in the area to use caution.

Authorities were called to the area at around 4:33 p.m.

The Toronto Fire Hazmat Unit is on the scene, and Animal Services will be notified, police said.

“We’ve learned that someone was seen spreading chemicals on the grass,” Const. David Hopkinson told CityNews.

“We have reports that a number of dogs had fallen sick after being in that area. How many dogs, I don’t know.”

Hopkinson says investigators issued a tweet to help warn dog owners before more animals fell sick.

No further details were immediately available, and there’s currently no suspect description.
