One popular outdoor pool in Toronto is set to welcome back swimmers after the opening was delayed for several weeks due to emergency repairs.
In June, the City of Toronto said Donald D. Summerville Olympic pools in Woodbine Beach wouldn’t open to the public after employees discovered damage to the liner caused by winter weather.
“To ensure the facility can open for the 2022 season, staff are expediting an emergency liner replacement for the 25-metre pool,” City of Toronto staff said at the time.
Staff had hoped the smaller, 25-metre section of the pool would be ready by the end of July, but fixes to the 50-metre swimming section likely won’t be completed until 2023.
City of Toronto officials confirmed Thursday that “critical repairs” to the 25-metre leisure pool are complete, and leisure swim will resume tomorrow.

The City began opening its outdoor pools on June 18, and all remaining pools opened as of June 30, except for those requiring repairs.

The city confirmed that Amesbury Sports Complex in North York would also reopen for leisure and lane swimming on August 2.
Repairs to the Riverdale Park East pool in Cabbagetown are complete, and the pool will reopen on August 4, for both leisure and lane swim, with swim lessons starting on August 8.
The city is extending the Donald D. Summerville pool swimming season, Riverdale Park East pool, and Amesbury Sports Complex until September 11.
Other outdoor pools are currently scheduled to close for the season on September 4 and September 5.
City swimming beaches, splash pads and wading pools across Toronto will be open on holiday Monday and throughout the holiday weekend. Indoor pools and community centres will be closed on the August 1 civic holiday.
