67-year-old man dead following chain reaction crash on Highway 404

A 67-year-old man is dead following a multi-vehicle chain reaction crash on Highway 404 in York Region.
OPP confirmed to CityNews the fatal collision occurred in the northbound lanes of the highway, north of Stouffville Road, shortly after midnight on Thursday morning.

Police say an initial minor two-vehicle collision occurred at 11:55 p.m.
One of the vehicles involved stopped in a live lane and was rear-ended by a third vehicle. Moments later, a fourth vehicle smashed into the back of the third car.
The driver of the fourth vehicle was pronounced dead. Police say the 67-year-old deceased man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The northbound 404 was closed from Stouffville Road to Bloomington Road for several hours, but the roads reopened around 6:30 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
