Police seek witness in fatal hit-and-run in Richmond Hill

Police are appealing for the driver of a vehicle wanted in a fatal hit-and-run in Richmond Hill to turn themselves in.

Investigators say around 9:15 p.m. on September 1, a woman was crossing at the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive East and Cedar Avenue when she was struck by a dark-coloured Honda Civic, which fled the scene of the accident.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police released a still photo Thursday of the suspect vehicle, which they say was spotted at a traffic light on Major Mackenzie at Yonge Street prior to the fatal collision.

It is described as a 2009 to 2011 four-door dark coloured Honda Civic with a loud muffler. The car will likely have damage to the front passenger side corner and windshield as a result of the incident.

Police are also looking to speak with driver of a green-wrapped company crossover-type vehicle which was stopped at the traffic lights next to the suspect vehicle at Yonge Street.

Any other witnesses with dash cam footage or information are also asked to contact police.
