Mississauga transit worker killed in workplace accident

A Mississauga transit worker is dead following a workplace accident at a maintenance facility on Saturday morning.

Geoff Wright, commissioner of transportation and works for the city, says the worker was injured at the Central Parkway Maintenance Garage, in the area of Burhamthorpe and Erindale Station roads, while performing maintenance on a bus around 4 a.m. Saturday morning.

The employee succumbed to their injuries after being taken to Credit Valley Hospital.

The city did not share details about the victim’s name, gender or age, or about the incident or what kind of work was being performed at the time.

Peel police responded to the incident and say the Ministry of Labour is now investigating.

“Today, we sadly lost one of our own,” tweeted Mississauga mayor Bonnie Crombie. “Sending my deepest condolences to their family, friends and colleagues.”

Crombie says flags at all city buildings will remain at half-mast to honour the deceased worker.
