Video of Justin Trudeau singing in lobby 2 days before Queen’s funeral draws mixed reaction

Video of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has surfaced, showing him singing in a hotel lobby. Faiza Amin with the mixed reaction.

As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau leads a Canadian delegation in the United Kingdom for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, a late-night tribute to a different Queen has raised questions and garnered mixed reactions online.

In a 14-second video clip that began circulating on multiple accounts on Sunday, Trudeau can be seen at the side of a piano dressed in a t-shirt singing Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody alongside a few other people. At the piano was noted Canadian musician Gregory Charles.

“Easy come, easy go, little high, little low, anyway the wind blows doesn’t really matter,” the group can be heard belting out.

The source of the video and the time it was shot weren’t immediately clear Monday afternoon. It’s also not known how long Trudeau and others were gathered for and what happened before or after the video clip was shot.

However, posts of the video collectively have been seen hundreds of thousands of times.

“Last night at the Savoy. Our PM in the UK representing Canada for the Queen’s funeral. How do you say you were a drama teacher without saying you were a drama teacher,” a tweet with the video posted by Lisa Power.

The video, which was shared on YouTube, had the same type of reactions.

However, in the replies, follow-up comments said the gathering was at the Corinthia London, a luxury hotel in downtown London, England. While some agreed with the sentiment of the caption, others questioned the legitimacy of the video. Meanwhile, others didn’t see an issue.

CityNews contacted the Prime Minister’s Office Monday afternoon to ask about the video. A spokesperson said Trudeau “joined a small gathering with members of the Canadian delegation, who have come together to pay tribute to the life and service” of Queen Elizabeth II.

They also confirmed Charles was playing the piano in the lobby and said that inspired participants of the delegation to come over.

“Over the past 10 days, the Prime Minister has taken part in various activities to pay his respects for the Queen, and today, the entire delegation is taking part in the State Funeral,” the brief statement said.

Several dignitaries joined Trudeau for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Monday for Canada’s delegation, including Governor General Mary Simon, former governors general Michaëlle Jean and David Johnston, former prime ministers Kim Campbell, Jean Chrétien, Paul Martin and Stephen Harper, and Assembly of First Nations National Chief RoseAnne Archibald.
