A motorcyclist has died after being involved in a collision that caused him to be thrown under a nearby TTC bus Saturday night, Toronto police officers say.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Dufferin Street and Preston Road close to Fairbank Memorial Park and south of Eglinton Avenue West at around 10:15 p.m.
Officers said they received several 911 calls that a motorcycle and a vehicle had collided, causing the male motorcyclist to be thrown from the motorcycle and under a TTC bus.
Police say a red 2016 Suzuki motorcycle was travelling southbound on Dufferin when it collided with a black Mazda 3, which was reversing out of a driveway on the west side of Dufferin, just south of Preston.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We know that it’s a very traumatic event that has occurred here as well as (for) people not only involved in the collision, but live in the area as well,” said Acting Inspector and Duty Officer Jeff Bangild.
Investigators from the traffic services unit were called in to probe the circumstances leading up to the crash. Bangild said speed, impairment and the condition of the street will all be looked at to see if any of those issues were contributing factors in the crash.
He said officers were canvassing in the area to get surveillance and dashcam video, adding they already started to receive images from residents.
“A number of video clips have been provided to us thus far. That’s helped us piece together exactly what occurred here,” Bangild said.
