Police identify victim in triple shooting at North York sports complex

At least one person has been killed and several others injured after two separate shootings in the GTA. The SIU has been called in for one of those incidents.

A triple shooting at an indoor soccer field in North York has claimed the life of a man, and left two others in hospital, police say.

Officers responded to calls for shots fired at La Liga Sports Complex in the Finch Avenue West and Alness Street area at around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday.

Once on scene, three men were located and taken to a trauma centre.

One was later pronounced dead. Police have since identified him as Edwin Farley Alvarado Quintero, 49, of Woodbridge.

The other two, in their 20s, remain in hospital. One has serious, life-threatening injuries and the other has non life-threatening injuries.

Multiple shell casings were found at the scene, but police could not say if there was more than one suspect.

“At this time we are not releasing any suspect information,” Act. Insp Saleem Husain said on Sunday.

On its website, La Liga Sports Complex says it offers soccer and basketball programs. It’s not clear if any games were taking place when the shooting occurred.

La Liga addressed the incident on its Instagram page Monday, saying: “No words can overcome the sadness of the loss of a valuable member of our community.

“Our thoughts are with his family. We also extend our regards for the two young men who were injured and we hope for their speedy recovery.”
