Many Instagram users reported that their accounts were inexplicably suspended on Monday and their efforts to have them verified and recovered have failed.
No reason for the technical issues have been provided by the company, but some users feared they were hacked, saying after going through the verification process their recovery emails were changed.
Some said they received a message saying their accounts violated Instagram’s community guidelines.
This is bizzare. Can you please explain how my account violated Instagram’s community guidelines? pic.twitter.com/itLJmr5DPA

All I’ve posted on Instagram is pictures of my dogs, landscapes, and friends/family. I guess that was too extreme. pic.twitter.com/Sr6R7w4VlZ

Instagram’s Public Relations team tweeted that it is aware of the issue but didn’t provide details. “We’re looking into it and apologize for the the inconvenience,” it said.

@instagram My account got banned or hacked for no reason, and every time I try to submit a form, it says I need to verify my identity first on Instagram. However, there’s NOTHING prompting me to do that. Please help me get my account back – there isn’t a way to contact you guys.

On 10/21 9:44 pm my account was WRONGFULLY disabled. As an @instagram creator who uses the platform to showcase clothing I hand make for professional Athlete’s and pays for ADs frequently would think to ensure that this does not happen @Meta. @instashug pic.twitter.com/M7KzaF0J5A

Instagram is owned by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, after it was acquired in 2012 for U.S. $1 billion in cash and stock. At the time Meta was known as Facebook Inc. — changing its name to Meta in 2021.
