TTC upgrading Presto machines to allow for credit, debit and mobile payment in 2023

Work has begun updating fare card readers on TTC buses and streetcars to allow for the introduction of new features from PRESTO.
The new PRESTO card readers will allow for open payment, including from credit and debit cards as well as mobile devices. The new features are expected to be available on the TTC as of 2023.
New readers have already been installed on two buses and one streetcar in advance of a full replacement. In total, more than 5,500 devices will be installed between now and the end of Jan. 2023.
The readers on TTC fare gates in the subway will be replaced next year.
TTC’s Wheel-Trans system had its readers replaced last month. Other transit agencies, including GO Transit, had the readers installed in Aug. 2022.
