A city councillor and owner of an Oakville movie theatre is speaking out after security footage showed the moments a suspect pulled up in a truck and stole an ATM, resulting in thousands of dollars worth of damages.
Film.Ca Cinemas, located in the Kerr Street and Speers Road area, shared surveillance video of the robbery that was carried out around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.
The footage shows the driver of a pickup truck pulling up to the movie theatre’s doors and smashing the glass using what appears to be a propane tank.
The perpetrator then enters the theatre with a tow strap cable, attaches it to an ATM and exits the venue.
The individual returns with the truck parked outside and can be seen connecting the other end and pulling the ATM through the front door. The suspect then secures the ATM and drives off.
Representatives with Film.Ca Cinemas say this is the second time in three years that a similar robbery has occurred at the location.
Jeff Knoll, Oakville Ward 5 city councillor and owner of Film.Ca Cinemas, shared the footage and urged anyone with information to come forward.
“We were robbed [on Thursday], and the damage to the theatre was over $10,000. There was $680 in the ATM,” Knoll tweeted.
CityNews has reached out to Halton Police for details but did not hear back before publication.
“Have a look at this video, and if you see anything that catches your eye, please contact Crime Stoppers of Halton,” Film.ca Cinemas noted.
Film.Ca Cinemas was one of a few movie theatres in Halton Region targeted by a pair of suspects in February 2022, who slashed several screens during a screening.
In July, Halton police arrested 30-year-old Dean Priestly of Toronto and 38-year-old Mohammed Yousafzai of Pickering. Both men were charged with multiple counts of mischief.
