Toronto broke a 63-year temperature record on Saturday with unseasonably warm weather and a high of 25 C at Pearson airport.
The previous record was 20 C set in 1959.
A record was also broken on Friday as the temperature soared to 20.8 C out at Pearson Airport, edging the previous mark of 20.1 C set in 1987.
The above seasonal temperatures are expected to stick around for the remainder of the weekend.
Along with the warmth, it was a gusty day in the GTHA with Environment Canada issuing a special weather statement warning of strong southwesterly winds with gusts of up to 80 km/h in some areas.
“A cold front associated with a strengthening area of low pressure will move across the area this evening. Strong southerly winds beginning this afternoon ahead of the front will veer to southwesterly this evening,” the national weather service said, noting that isolated power outages are possible due to damage from strong winds.
The winds were expected to ease later in the night, but as of 9 p.m. the special weather statement remained in effect.
Rain is expected to reach the GTA around 10 p.m. with approximately 5 mm forecasted before clearing up Sunday morning.
