Cyclist struck and killed in midtown Toronto

A cyclist has been struck and killed in midtown Toronto.

Police say they were called to the intersection of Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday following reports someone had been struck and was trapped underneath a vehicle.

Police say the 20-year-old cyclist was pronounced dead as fire crews and paramedics worked to extricate them.

Investigators say a white pick-up truck was travelling westbound on St. Clair Avenue East and struck the cyclist as the driver turned right onto Yonge Street. The cyclist was crossing in the pedestrian crosswalk.

The driver reported continued northbound with the bike and cyclist lodged underneath the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene.

Police say it’s early in their investigation, so it’s uncertain at this point if any charges are pending.
