TikTok shares viral moments, creators and communities from 2022 in Canada

Little has captured the attention of Canadians more this year than TikTok and now the app is reflecting on viral moments, creators and trends from 2022.

Some popular videos reached aver 400 million views from some Canadian creators including @Jamie32bsh whose dancing while filming himself in a mirror garnered over 51 million likes.

Henna for EID from @parisa_henna_art, a filter prank gone wrong from @krisenandreafe, a chef thinly slicing a cucumber @w2sixpackchef and a talkative bird from @tamarasbluechicken all reached over 100 million views this year as well.

Some breakthrough stars on TikTok in 2022 included chef and restauranteur Susur Lee’s son Jet Bent Lee who filmed his father cooking up famous recipes, Nurse John sharing parodies of life as a nurse and showing the essential work of nurses and other healthcare workers during this critical time and new Canadian @makhnachov who captured himself discovering Canadian food and activities

Other stars included Laura Whaley who brought levity to the corporate world with content about how to navigate workplace relationships and Alicia McCarvell who took her followers on a “self-love journey” this year.

Trending communities where those on TikTok can go to find out more about a topic they are interested in included #IndigenousTok, #OutdoorsTok #BookTok, #SmallBusinessTok, and #TransTok.

Small businesses also took advantage of the millions of eyes on the app to promote their products which led to trending hashtags like #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt.

Some of the small businesses that made a name for themselves include the Indigenous Box, which was a gateway to bringing Indigenous entrepreneurs to the world, Eclair Lips, RainbowCertified, DSRT CO and Au Bord Du Vrac.

The most popular artists from Canada this year included some familiar names like Justin Bieber and the Weekend, but here is a full list of the singers with the most video views in 2022.
