Some construction on Adelaide Street in downtown Toronto has wrapped up but work will continue for a few more months, ahead of the Ontario Line subway construction next year.
Work along the roadway from Bathurst to Parliament streets started in late October and included “critical upgrades to water, road and cycling infrastructure,” as well as TTC streetcar track work.
At the time, the City said construction would take place in phases and see sections of Adelaide reduced to one lane of shared traffic and partial intersection closures for several months.
Starting this week, construction on Adelaide will take place from Charlotte to Duncan streets, which is between Spadina and University avenues. Adelaide will be down to a single lane through that area.
Construction between University Avenue and York Street is almost done but lane reductions are still in place.
Adelaide is still down to a single lane between York and Bay streets but work is close to completion.
Once that stretch is done, Adelaide will be down to a single lane from Bay to Victoria streets. This is expected to happen in the first half of this month.
All of the construction on Adelaide is expected to be done in the spring of next year.
The construction was supposed to start in early August and finish up by end of this year but the City said the work was delayed to locate underground utilities.
