Suspect arrested in 2 unprovoked face slashings downtown

A 21 year old man has been arrested following two unprovoked face slashings in downtown Toronto. Michelle Mackey has the latest from police. 

A man suspected in the unprovoked face slashings of two people in downtown Toronto has been arrested, police confirmed on Tuesday.

Both attacks happened in the downtown core over a span of 36 hours.

The first incident occurred on December 9 in the Dundas Street East and Victoria Street area. Police say the suspect approached the victim at around 7:30 a.m. and slashed their face from behind with an “edged weapon” before fleeing the scene on foot.

Two days later, around 5:45 a.m. in the Yonge and Adelaide streets area, a man approached someone asleep outside and slashed them in the face with an “edged weapon” before fleeing the scene.

Both victims were treated and released from the hospital.

On Tuesday, police arrested Matthew McLellan, 21, of Toronto.

He’s facing two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of assault with a weapon.
