A Toronto man is facing an attempted murder charge after a 19-year-old man was stabbed in what appears to be a seemingly random attack in Mississauga.
Investigators say a victim was approached from behind by the suspect in the area of Hurontario Street and Hillcrest Avenue around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
The victim was taken to hospital with critical injuries. He is currently in serious but stable condition.
Police say the male suspect fled the area before police arrived, last seen running southbound on Hurontario before turning eastbound onto John Street.
Investigators believe the attack was unprovoked and that the victim and the suspect do not appear to know each other.
Earlier on Wednesday, police released security camera images of the suspect, who they said was “armed and dangerous” and advised anyone who spotted him to not approach and immediately call 911.
In an update, police say investigators identified the suspect as 34-year-old David Dytlow of Toronto and issued a warrant for his arrest.
Around 9:30 a.m., officers were at a hospital in Mississauga on an unrelated matter when they spotted the suspect and took him into custody.
Dytlow has been charged with Attempted Murder and three counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order. He has been held for a bail hearing.
Police say at the time of his arrest, Dytlow was on judicial release for several criminal offences, including assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats. In one of the incidents, which took place in Peel in 2021, police allege Dytlow stabbed someone. He was prohibited from carrying weapons.
