The TTC is finalizing its 2023 maintenance schedule that outlines how many subway closures riders can expect this year.
A report going before the TTC board this week will go over the planned closures and streetcar diversions. There are a total of 24 full weekend subway closures planned for 2023.
Some good news, there will be fewer scheduled full closures on the Yonge-University line than there was in 2022. The main work of installing automatic train controls is now complete.
In 2023, there will be 15 planned full weekend closures on Line 1 and nine planned closures on Line 2. The early forecast suggests there will be 20 full weekend closures on Line 1 in 2024 with 17 full closures on Line 2.

The TTC advised the scheduled closures could potentially change, saying they “take place in a larger context of what is happening throughout the city.”
Last week, the TTC announced a 10-cent fare hike, raising single cash fares to $3.35, and reduced services to address a $366 million budget shortfall. As of November, the TTC’s ridership levels were just under 70 per cent of its pre-pandemic levels.
