Shots fired inside Scarborough mall during jewelry store robbery

Security camera video shows three armed robbers enter a jewellery store inside Majestic City mall on Markham Rd near Finch. While inside store someone locked glass exit doors nearby-trapping bandits inside mall. They shot out the glass & ran off.

Police are looking for suspects after shots were fired inside a Scarborough shopping centre during a robbery on Thursday night.

Officers responded to a shooting at a plaza in the area of Markham Road and McNicoll Avenue around 7 p.m.

Investigators say shots were fired inside Majestic City mall while three armed suspects were robbing a jewelry store.

Security camera footage from inside the mall shows three male suspects, donning masks and hoodies, pulling out firearms and entering the jewellry store.

The footage shows one suspect covering the entrance to the store while the two others go inside and begin to take items. The video ends before the suspects leave the store.

The store owners tell CityNews someone locked the mall exit doors while the thieves were still inside, forcing them to shoot out the glass doors to make their escape.

The owners report hearing three shots fired. Shell casings were located on the ground at the scene.

The robbery occurred while the mall was still open and shoppers, including children, were inside. No injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
