5 people in custody following police chase, crash in Brampton

Five people are in custody following an early morning police chase in Brampton that ended with a vehicle crashing into a pole.
The collision occurred at Clarence Street and Rutherford Road around 3:15 a.m. on Monday.
Police tell CityNews the incident began as a routine traffic stop when officers in the area pulled over a suspected impaired driver.
The vehicle fled the scene and ended up crashing into a hydro pole after a short police pursuit.

All the occupants in the vehicle were arrested at the scene. Two of them were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Three police cruisers sustained minor damage but no officers were hurt.
The investigation is ongoing. Police say roads in the area will be closed for several hours and motorists are being asked to find alternate routes.
