‘We believe there are more victims’: Toronto man facing 96 charges in child sex assault investigation

A Toronto man is facing nearly 100 charges in an ongoing child luring and sexual assault investigation, in which all of the known victims are minors.

Det. Vijay Shetty from the Toronto Police Service (TPS) Sex Crimes Unit updated the public on the investigation on Wednesday morning, saying investigators believe there are additional victims who have yet to come forward.

“It’s very important that we reach out to as many members of the public in the GTA, as well as Ontario, to see if anyone had any interactions with this individual,” Shetty said.

Police in Toronto identified the suspect in December 2022 after being notified of him by members of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children From Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet (Provincial Strategy) in Thunder Bay.

The investigation in Thunder Bay involved the luring and sexual assault of a young person.

On Feb. 7, officers executed a search warrant at a home in the area of Weston Road and Finch Avenue. Police arrested a man at the home after allegedly seizing a number of electronic devices at the residence that contained a large amount of child sexual abuse material, as well as evidence connected to the investigation in Thunder Bay.

After further investigation, and the execution of additional search warrants, officers allegedly seized more electronic devices from the suspect’s home that contained additional sexual abuse material.

Police allege the evidence obtained through the investigation suggests a seven-year-old child was sexually assaulted at a Toronto park. The evidence also points to more victims who were targeted through social media, and in-person, across the province.

Police say there are multiple victims across Ontario between the ages of seven and 17. They suspect the offences all occurred between April 2021 and February 2023.

“We believe there are more victims,” says Shetty. “We know that coming forward isn’t always easy, but we are asking anyone that may have interacted with him to contact police as soon as they can.”

Police say the suspect used altered photos of himself online to appear younger. It is also alleged he used a variety of handles and email addresses on different social media platforms (full list below).

Daniel Langdon, 31, of Toronto is facing 96 charges, including 39 counts of sexual assault, 39 counts of sexual interference, nine counts relating to child pornography, and eight counts of administering a noxious substance.

Langdon was previously charged with child pornography in 2016.

The accused appeared in a Toronto courtroom on Feb. 8. He remains in police custody.
