1 dead after being stabbed at banquet hall north of Toronto

One person is dead following a violent incident at a banquet hall in the north end of the city.

Toronto police were called to an industrial complex in the area of Highway 427 and Steeles Avenue just after 9:30 p.m. Friday after gunfire erupted following an altercation.

When they arrived they did not find any victims but later learned that someone had walked into a nearby hospital suffering from life-threatening stab wounds. That person was later pronounced dead from their injuries.

A second victim showed up at another hospital related to this incident with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say one person is in custody and a firearm was located at the scene.

No further details have been released including the ages and genders of those involved and any possible relationship between them.

The homicide squad has now been called in to investigate.
