Three-alarm fire in Queen Street West and Ryerson Avenue area

A three-alarm fire has broken out in the Queen Street West and Ryerson Avenue area.

Toronto police responded to a call at approximately 6:25 a.m. about a fire at a residential building at 559 Queen Street West.

Crews removed three people from the roof, though none had to be transported to hospital.

The fire is still active as emergency crews are checking adjacent buildings. Smoke migration has moved to at least five surrounding buildings and it is unknown how many residents displaced.

A number of units have sustained substantial fire and water damage, and the origin of where the fire started here is unknown.

The fire was originally reported as a two-alarm fire, but was later re-classified. Shelter buses have been ordered for residents.

No injuries have been reported, but Queen Street West will continue to be closed from Portland Street to Augusta Avenue for a few hours.

Toronto Fire say they are still tackling some smoke and hope to have TTC services in the area resumed by the afternoon.

Fire Chief Matthew Pegg has said operations to put out the fire are ongoing.
