Tee time in Toronto: City’s 5 golf courses open for the season

By Patricia D'Cunha

It is a sign that spring has arrived — even though the weather tells us otherwise at times — as the City of Toronto’s five golf courses opened for the season on Tuesday.

Golfers will be able to book tee times in 10-minute intervals at Dentonia Park, Don Valley, Humber Valley, Scarlett Woods, and Tam O’Shanter.

Torontonians ready to get back on the course are encouraged to book a tee time in advance online or by calling the golf course directly up to five days in advance.

The courses will operate daily into the fall season, weather permitting.

This year marks 90 years for the Tam O’Shanter course, which opened in 1933 and was privately owned until 1973, when it was purchased by the Metro Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Metro Council, Scarborough Council and the Province of Ontario.

If traditional golf is not your cup of tea, fling golf will also be offered at Dentonia Park, Humber Valley, Scarlett Woods, and Tam O’Shanter.

Fling golf is a mix of golf and lacrosse, where players hurl or fling a golf ball across the course for a faster pace of play.

The City is also offering a discount for families where junior players can golf for free during weekend afternoon nine-hole times when accompanied by a paying adult. A limited number of junior memberships are also available. Click here for more information.

The City says its five golf courses continue to grow in popularity, with an increase of 30,500 more rounds played last year than in 2021. According to its data, a record 225,501 rounds were played in 2022, which surpassed its previous record of 218,000 rounds played in 2003.
