GO Transit expands weekend trains to Brampton, 4 lines to see buses for certain trips

Starting today, some GO Train stations will be closing train doors one minute before departure. This is to help keep the trains on schedule.

Beginning on Saturday, commuters on several GO Transit train lines will see multiple schedule changes, and the biggest service adjustment will see all-day, two-way trips between Toronto and Brampton.

Kitchener line trains will now be running hourly between Union Station and Mount Pleasant GO station. On weekends, the first trip will be eastbound from Mount Pleasant at 7:49 a.m., and the last trip will be westbound from Union Station and 11:51 p.m. The train trips will shave several minutes off the current journey by bus.

There will still be bus trips on the corridor on weekends, with buses beginning or ending mostly at York Mills GO Bus Terminal or Bramalea GO station.

ONTARIO BUDGET 2023: No plans yet for TTC, GO Transit co-fares unlike elsewhere in GTA

On weekdays, GO Transit will also be operating two extra morning eastbound trips and an extra afternoon westbound trip on parts of the Kitchener line corridor.

When it comes to new bus services, there will also be several changes, but the most noticeable is a new weekday route between Hamilton and Waterloo. Starting on Monday, the route will make several stops to service McMaster University, and Aldershot GO station, along with other destinations in Guelph, Kitchener and Waterloo.

Some services, such as the Route 81 bus that goes through Beaverton, Port Perry and Whitby, will be cancelled.

Certain GO Transit train trips on Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East and Barrie lines replaced with buses

As part of the most recent schedule changes, GO Transit officials noted ongoing construction projects will be forcing certain train trips to be cancelled and replaced with buses as of Saturday. Those cancellations mean several train stations in Toronto will only be served by the TTC or other local transit agencies.

CityNews tried to get more information on the exact nature of the construction work and projected end dates, but those questions weren’t answered. However, a Metrolinx spokesperson provided additional information on which trips will be impacted.

Lakeshore East

Between Sunday and Thursday, the last scheduled westbound and eastbound train trips will be replaced with GO Transit buses.

On weekends, the first four scheduled eastbound and westbound departures will be replaced with buses.

The buses on the affected trips will not stop at Danforth, Scarborough, Eglinton, Guildwood or Rouge Hill GO stations for the duration of work. Officials said those stations will only be serviced by local transit.

Lakeshore West

Between Sunday and Thursday, the last scheduled westbound and eastbound train trips will be replaced with GO Transit buses.

On weekends, the first four scheduled eastbound and westbound departures will be replaced with buses.

The buses on the affected trips will not stop at Long Branch, Mimico and Exhibition GO stations for the duration of work. Officials said those stations will only be serviced by local transit.

Barrie

On weekdays, trains outside of morning and afternoon rush hours will be replaced with GO Transit buses. The buses will not stop at Downsview Park GO station, but TTC service will continue.

The last train trip southbound from Allandale Waterfront GO station in Barrie will be at 9:03 a.m. The first train trip northbound from Union Station will be at 1:53 p.m., and the last one to Allandale Waterfront GO station will be at 6:53 p.m.

When it comes to weekend service, most train trips will be replaced with buses. However, trains between Union Station and Allandale Waterfront GO station will run around every three hours.

Stouffville

On weekdays, trains outside of morning and afternoon rush hours will be replaced with GO Transit buses. The buses will not stop at Kennedy, Agincourt and Milliken GO stations, but TTC service will continue.

The last train trip southbound from Old Elm GO station in Whitchurch-Stouffville will be at 9:17 a.m. The first train trip northbound from Union Station will be at 3:13 p.m., and the last one will be at 7:13 p.m. All northbound trips will be extended to Old Elm GO station.

All weekend train trips will be replaced with buses.

Meanwhile, officials urged commuters to double-check their trip plans at Triplinx.ca.
