Suspect sought in two knifepoint retail robberies in downtown Toronto

Toronto police are trying to find a suspect accused of committing two armed robberies in downtown Toronto.

Police say they responded to two robberies on April 25 at separate businesses in the east end of downtown.

The first incident occurred in the area of Bloor Street East and Sherbourne Street, where a man allegedly entered a store and approached the checkout counter. The suspect pulled out a knife and waved it around while demanding cash.

He allegedly jumped onto the counter and made more threatening gestures. The suspect fled the store with a quantity of cash.

Officers responded to a second robbery later the same day in the area of Gerrard Street East and Jarvis Street.

Police say a man again entered a business and approached the checkout counter while brandishing a knife. He yelled at an employee before walking behind the counter and attempting to open the cash register.

According to investigators, the suspect was unable to open the register and instead fled the store with lottery tickets.

Following an investigation, members of the Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad were able to identify a suspect.

Police have released photos of Evens Bazelais Itil, 29, of no fixed address. Itil is wanted on several charges, including two counts of armed robbery.
