Ontario police say kitten thrown from car window recovering, lucky to be alive

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) updated the condition of a kitten thrown from a car window onto a busy provincial highway last week, saying the animal is lucky to be alive.

OPP Highway Safety Division said the kitten was thrown out of a car on the eastbound portion of Highway 403 near Waterdown around 10:45 a.m. on Friday, May 19.

Two constables with Burlington OPP said while there are no leads in the investigation, they’re appealing to the public that was in the area between 10:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. on Friday to contact them.

“She is alive and well and is recovering from the incident that happened to her on Friday,” said OPP Const. Tamara Beckers, adding that the kitten’s leg was broken and had to be amputated.

“On Saturday afternoon, she had that surgery, and it was a great success. She had an infection in her left eye, which is looking much better now.”

Const. Beckers said the kitten is on the road to recovery and will remain at a Burlington veterinary office for a while.

“Thank you to the witnesses for calling in this horrible incident of animal cruelty. No animal should ever be abandoned in that matter… that’s just unacceptable.”

Police are trying to determine whether the cat was thrown from the window by its owner or if it was a stray.

Anyone with information is asked to call Burlington OPP at 905-681-2511.
