Police investigation on Gardiner Expressway prompts major delays

A Toronto police investigation on the Gardiner Expressway resulted in lengthy delays for drivers heading into the city on Friday evening.

Investigators noted a heavy police presence on the eastbound Gardiner Expressway approaching Spadina just before 8:30 p.m. for a vehicle stop.

No injuries were reported, police said.

No details about the investigation were made available, but photos online showed multiple police cruisers stopped on the highway.

A Toronto police spokesperson tells CityNews the alleged arrests involved an investigation in Halton Region, and Toronto police officers were called in to assist.

The eastbound portion of the Gardiner was down to one lane at the time of the investigation, and police said drivers were forced to exit at Spadina.

All lanes on the eastbound Gardiner Expressway re-opened around 10 p.m., police confirmed.
