One man is dead, and a woman is recovering from her injuries following a targeted shooting in Port Credit.

Peel Regional Police were called to Oakwood Avenue South near Lake Ontario just south of Wanita Road around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday following reports of gunshots.

When they arrived, they found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 19-year-old woman, an acquaintance of the victim, was taken to hospital in non-life threatening condition.

The man was identified as 25-year-old Shahid Todd of Toronto.

Peel Regional Police said investigators believe the shooting was targeted, noting that there is no risk to the public.

In 2020, a man with the same name as the victim was arrested following a Canada-wide warrant for attempted murder. That shooting occurred on February 22, 2020, after a man was shot in a Mississauga parking lot.

Information at the time indicated the male suspect had fled the country.

On July 19, 2020, Todd, 22 years old at the time, was taken into custody. He faced up to nine charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon and robbery, among other offences.
