TPH opening new east-end vaccine clinic while closing three others

The City of Toronto says it will open a new fixed-site vaccination clinic in the east end while closing three others as it looks to consolidate its services across the city.

Toronto Public Health says the new clinic opening August 1 near Scarborough Town Centre will offer access to a range of vaccines, including COVID-19, MPOX, meningococcal, human papillomavirus, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis (whooping cough) and varicella (chickenpox).

It will join three other fixed-site clinics located at Metro Hall, Cloverdale Mall and North York Civic Centre, providing the same services to the public.

The opening of the Scarborough location will see clinics at Jane Finch Mall and Eglinton Square cease operation as of July 22 while the Thorncliffe Hub clinic will shut down on July 29.

“Students in grades 7 to 12 who did not get lifesaving vaccines at school or catch-up clinics can continue to receive these vaccines at TPH fixed-site vaccination clinics. In particular, students who completed grades 9 and 10 this year may not be up to date,” the City said in a statement. “TPH urges parents and guardians to prioritize their children’s health by getting their children’s vaccines back on track.”

As well, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) and the provincial government have recommended that people five years of age and older wait to get a COVID-19 booster until the fall when respiratory virus activity is higher. Toronto Public Health says its COVID-19 vaccination mobile clinics are on hold in preparation for the fall vaccination campaign.

Parents can book appointments using TPH’s online booking system, although walk-ins will be accommodated based on capacity.
