The repeat offender from Brampton is facing nine charges including robbery, flight from police and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

A 26-year-old repeat offender is facing a number of charges in connection with a violent carjacking in Mississauga earlier this month.

Peel police say on July 14 the suspect was driving a cargo van that was initially stolen in York Region when he deliberately rear-ended another car in the area of Goreway Drive and Morning Star Drive in Mississauga.

As the driver of the rear-ended vehicle exited to examine the damage, the suspect jumped into the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

Video captured from York Region’s Air Support Unit shows a struggle between the driver and the suspect as the vehicle flees the area at a high rate of speed while running red lights.

A short time later the vehicle’s owner is forced out of the car as it continues speeding away, resulting in minor injuries to the victim.

The stolen vehicle was then tracked to a location near Lakeshore Road and 36th Street in Toronto where the Peel Tactical and Rescue Unit conducted a high-risk vehicle stop and arrested the suspect.

Sagar Puri of Brampton is facing a total of nine charges including robbery, flight from police and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

Police say at the time of the incident Puri was out on bail for a number of similar offences.
