A 69-year-old North York man is dead following a crash at a racetrack south of Toronto.
Ontario Provincial Police say they were called just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a collision between two drag racers at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga.
Police say a 69-year-old dragster from North York was transported to hospital, where he died of his injuries.
The victim has been identified as Tony Positano in a pair of Facebook tributes. Race Cayuga Sportsman Series said Positano was “always trying to grow the sport and was akways trying to get more people out racing” while DragRaceCanada called him a “popular and dedicated Top Dragster class racer.”
Positano was competing as part of the Labour Day Weekend Spectacular, according to the racetrack’s Facebook page.
Police say the driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.
OPP say the National Hot Rod Association, the governing body that sets rules in drag racing events in Canada and the U.S., has taken over the investigation.
