Oshawa man arrested after assaulting woman, barricading himself in home: police

A man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman before barricading himself inside a home in Oshawa earlier this week.

Durham Regional Police say officers were called to a residence in the area of Park Road and Gibb Street around 12 a.m. Monday for reports of an assault.

Officers found a female at the scene with minor injuries and she was removed from the home.

Police allege the suspect was armed with weapons and barricaded himself in a bedroom of the residence. Officers negotiated with the man in an attempt to get him to leave the room, but were unsuccessful.

York Regional Police Service’s Emergency Response Unit were called in and were able to enter the room and take the suspect into custody without incident.

Durham police say Oshawa resident Richard Charbonneau, 46, is being charged with assault and uttering death threats.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing.
