Peel police are investigating an antisemitic death threat against a Jewish doctor in Mississauga. As Tina Yazdani reports, a sharp rise in hate crimes has put both Jewish and Muslim communities on edge.

Police did not elaborate on the nature of the threat made, but a spokesperson for Trillium Health Partners says an anti-Semitic death threat was received by a hospital staff member at a non-hospital work premises.

“This threat was targeted towards a team member who identifies as Jewish,” read the statement sent to CityNews.

“In response to this incident, we immediately increased security presence at THP and are continuously working with community partners, including police, peer hospitals, and others, to assess and respond to all risks to security.”

“THP unequivocally stands against all forms of hate, including this act of anti-Semitism. We have zero tolerance for threats of any kind against our staff, professional staff, volunteers, learners, patients, and community. “

Trillium Health Partners encompasses Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Hospital and Queensway Health Centre.

“We have zero tolerance for hate, threats or violence against anyone in our community, and all reported incidents will be investigated to the fullest extent,” said Peel police chief Nishan Duraiappah in a statement.

Police in Peel, and across the GTA, have increased their presence and patrols in Jewish communities as well as around cultural centres, synagogues, mosques, schools and other places of worship in the wake of the war between Israel and Hamas.
