GTA schools evacuated as Toronto police, OPP investigate bomb threats

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) launched an investigation into multiple bomb threats across parts of northern and eastern Ontario on Wednesday.

The OPP said several schools and other facilities are being targeted with demands for payment.

Toronto police said Kipling Collegiate Institute, Lakeshore Collegiate Institute and Western Technical Commercial School were evacuated and students sent home for the day early before a sweep of the schools revealed no threat.

No injuries were reported.

In a statement to CityNews, Toronto police said it’s too soon to say if the threats are connected to the OPP investigation.

Police in Halton region said Nelson High School in Burlington was also evacuated due to a similar threat.

Parents are being encouraged to contact their schools or school boards for more information.

In addition to local officers, the OPP Cybercrime Investigations Team is engaged.
