A man from Quebec is facing nearly two dozen charges after allegedly trying to run down officers in Durham Region over the weekend.
Durham Regional Police Service says members from the Tactical Support Unit saw a vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes on Simcoe Street in Oshawa around 1:45 a.m. Sunday.
It is alleged the suspect vehicle tried to hit the tactical vehicles and then made “intentional contact with police vehicles in a clear and deliberate attempt to evade law enforcement.”
The suspect then drove onto the westbound Highway 407 at high speeds, according to police.
Officers followed the vehicle to a gas station where officers tried to get the driver to stop while outside their vehicles. Police say the suspect accelerated and tried to run over the officers before fleeing the area.
The suspect vehicle made its way into York Region and was finally stopped by officers on the westbound 407 just west of Markham Road. The driver was taken into custody.
Police say the driver was suspected to be impaired, but he refused to give a breath sample.
Durham police say 27-year-old R-Kelly Parson from Quebec is facing 22 charges including fleeing an officer, four counts of assault with a weapon and eleven counts of possessing an automobile master key.
Anyone with additional information is being asked to contact police.
